LONDON (ICIS news)--Italy's Polimeri Europa is ending an operating contract with Total Petrochemicals to produce polystyrene (PS) at Feluy, Belgium, a spokesperson for the French petrochemical producer said on Tuesday.
Total Petrochemicals produces more than 1.3m tonnes of polymers per annum at the site. The three PS units, which are owned by Polimeri Europa but operated by Total staff, produce a total of 200,000 tonnes per year, a statement from Total read.
“All administrative matters and sales [in Feluy] are entirely managed by Polimeri Europa,” a spokesperson for the company added.
Total Petrochemicals employs a total of 525 people at Feluy, of which 130 are likely to be affected by the announcement.
The company has pledged to meet with Polimeri to clarify the consequences of their decision on its employees, the spokesperson said.
Polimeri Europa could not immediately be reached for comments.
