HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Jiangsu Sopo will use technology from DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers to build a new 330,000 tonne/year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant in China, the companies said on Wednesday.

The plant, scheduled for startup in 2013 at Sopo’s existing Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, site, will include a methanol unit and a 1.2m tonne/year acetic acid plant that will provide feedstock for the VAM facility.

DuPont will provide VAM technology under license and technical assistance for the plant, as it has for other chemical producers.

DuPont and Eastman Chemical agreed to similar arrangements with Saudi International Petrochemical (Sipchem) at its new acetyls complex in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

Sipchem said earlier this month that its acetic acid and VAM plants there will open in November.
