SABIC to export PE pipe grades to China in Q2 2010

BEIJING (ICIS news)--SABIC is planning to start exporting pipe grade high density polyethylene (HDPE) resins to China in the second quarter of next year, an industry source said on Wednesday.

“It’s expected to start selling prime grade HDPE pipe grades in the second quarter next year. The supplier has been pre-marketing the material for more than two years,” the source said on the sidelines of the International Plastic Pipe Exchange Conference in Beijing.

The one and half day event closes on Thursday.

The pipe grades would be produced at a new 400,000 tonne/year HDPE operated by its subsidiary, Yanbu National Petrochemical Co (Yansab), in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

The new HDPE plant was expected to start commercial production by the end of this year, and the supplier would have to obtain the relevant certifications for its pipe grade HDPE resins before offering the material in the market, he said.

SABIC would be exporting black colour compounded HDPE 100 and HDPE 80 to China, he added.
