APLA meets in MexicoMEXICO CITY (ICIS news)--The 29th annual meeting of the Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA) got underway on Sunday in Mexico City with participation of more than 600 attendees.

Although the attendance was slightly less than recorded in the last two meetings as a direct consequence of the global economic crisis, participation beat the organisers’ expectations, said Fernando Poppi, marketing manager of APLA.

The success of the event was partially attributed to the contribution of a Mexican promotion committee that ensured participation of Mexican industries and political figures.

The US and Brazilian petrochemical industries were also well represented in the event, Poppi said, in addition to local companies.

The speaker line-up for the lectures through Tuesday will tackle topics related to economic issues, supply, demand, pricing and global market direction as interpreted by consultants and industry experts, Poppi added.

The APLA meeting began on Sunday continues through Tuesday.
