SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s PTT Chemical is expected to start production at its new 250,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Mab Ta Phut on Friday, sources close to the company said on Thursday.

The new plant will be operated by its fully owned subsidiary, Bangkok Polyethylene.

Meanwhile, capacity expansion at PTT Chemical's existing 250,000 tonne/year HDPE plant on the same site was expected to be completed in end December, the sources said.

The capacity of the plant would be raised by 50,000 tonnes/year to 300,000 tonnes/year, the sources said.

Taking into account an existing 250,000 tonne/year HDPE plant operated by Bangkok Polyethylene, PTT Chemical would have a total HDPE capacity of 800,000 tonnes/year once all the new capacities come on stream.
