SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s Rayong Olefins Company Limited (ROC) will shut its aromatics unit at Mab Ta Phut in the fourth quarter of 2010 for a maintenance turnaround, a company source said on Thursday.

The exact shutdown date had not been finalised, the source added.

The aromatics facility, which can produce up to 160,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 80,000 tonnes/year of toluene, was running at close to 100%, the source said.

The firm’s 800,000 tonne/year cracker at the same site would also be shut during the same period for maintenance.

ROC is a joint venture between Siam Cement Group and US chemical giant Dow Chemical.

Other key aromatics producers in Thailand include IRPC and PTT.
