SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem) will start up its new 330,000 tonne/year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant in Jubail Industrial City in early December, a company statement said late on Monday.

Sipchem also started production at a new upstream, 450,000 tonne/year acetic acid facility at the same site on 22 November, it added.

Half of the output from the acetic acid plant would be utilised in the production of VAM. The remaining acetic acid would be sold in the local and international markets in January, the company added.

International chemical marketer Helm will be selling the product.

The start up of the acetic plant is considered to be the second phase towards the full operation of the integrated Acetyls Complex in Saudi Arabia.

The first phase was the start up in May of the 335,000 tonne/year carbon monoxide plant, considered to be the largest of its kind in the world, according to the statement.
