LONDON (ICIS news)--Borealis has appointed Gerd Löbbert as its executive vice president for base chemicals, effective 1 January 2010, the chemical producer said on Wednesday.

The company said Löbbert would report to chief executive Mark Garrett and be based at its head office in Vienna, Austria.

Löbbert has worked in various functions and divisions at BASF, specifically in the area of pigments, polymers, additives and printing inks. He held the position of group vice president, cracker products and industrial gases Europe from 2005.

In mid-2009 he was responsible for restructuring BASF's worldwide pigment activities.

“These are challenging times for our industry and the global economy at large; however, these conditions will ultimately create new opportunities for Borealis,” said Löbbert.
