SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Optimal Chemicals plans to restart operations at its 50,000 tonne/year butyl acetate (butac) plant at Kerteh, in Malaysia's Terengganu state, by early next week, a company official said on Monday.

“We may restart over the weekend or on 7 December,” the official said, adding that the company might maintain the plant's operating rates at around 50% of capacity if demand for the solvent from the downstream wood furniture and automobile coatings sectors remained weak.

The plant was taken off line on 7 November for a one-month shutdown in line the shutdown of its upstream n-butanol (NBA) plant, which is due to resume operations early next month.
