HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Valero’s refinery in Texas City, Texas, continued operating on Saturday after an explosion on Friday night killed a worker and injured two others, according to reports.
The blast occurred at about 21:00 hours Houston time (03:00 hours Saturday GMT) following a boiler failure, said company spokesman Bill Day.
“The extent of the damage to the unit and the cause of the incident are under investigation at this time,” Day said. “The refinery is operating and there is no environmental impact to the surrounding area.”
The 245,000 bbl/day refinery employs 480 people, according to the company’s website.
