Eastman cracker in Texas offline after unplanned shutdown

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Eastman Chemical said on Tuesday its largest cracker in  Longview, Texas, was offline following an unplanned shutdown during the weekend.

The company said its cracker number 4, which has 358,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity, experienced an unplanned outage on evening of 5 December.

Production is expected to resume within the week, a company spokesperson said.

Eastman has two other crackers in Longview, each with 141,000 tonnes/year of capacity.

One of those units has been offline since November 2008 while the other is scheduled to be permanently shut down in February 2010.
