HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US acrylonitrile (ACN) exports for October were 42,997 tonnes, up 47% from the 29,291 tonnes shipped during the same month the year before, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday.
ACN exports were up 48% from 29,016 tonnes in September, the ITC said.
US ACN exports grew at the beginning of the fourth quarter as demand from Asia strengthened while ACN manufacturers in that region shut down for maintenance, market sources said.
Korea was the largest recipient of US ACN export, receiving 20,333 tonnes in October - more than twice the 9,200 tonnes it obtained in October 2008, the ITC said.
Major US ACN sellers include INEOS, Cytec and Ascend.
