DUBAI (ICIS news)--SABIC affiliate Yanbu National Petrochemical Co (Yansab) is expected to begin commercial production at its new high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, in January 2010, SABIC CEO Mohamed al-Mady said late on Thursday.
“The HDPE plant, which will produce bimodal pipe grade, is in trial production currently but is expected to achieve commercial output in January,” Al-Mady said on the sidelines of the 4th Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) forum in ?xml:namespace>
Obtaining the relevant certification for selling the bimodal pipe grade has been completed, Al-Mady said.
ICIS news had earlier reported that Yansab was expected to achieve commercial output at the new plant by the end of this year.
Al-Mady did not disclose a reason for the delay to the start-up.
The 1.3m tonne/year cracker and other downstream plants at the Yansab complex started up at the end of August.
The three-day GPCA forum ended on 10 December.
