BUCHAREST (ICIS news)--Romanian chemical producer Oltchim is to cut 400 jobs in the first half of next year, including 200 in the first quarter, by contracting out some of its non-core activities, the company said on Monday.

"We will externalise activities such as from the medical unit or from the canteen," said Constantin Roibu, Oltchim's general manager.

These are extra cuts beyond those announced in August, when Oltchim said it would reduce its workforce by one third to 2,593 employees by the end of this year.

Oltchim produces caustic soda, petrochemicals, agrochemicals, inorganic products and building materials, including insulating polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for panels, doors and window frames.
