LONDON (ICIS news)--Borealis is to invest €75m ($110m) in a semi-commercial catalyst plant at Linz in Austria and the development of new catalysts, the Austria-based chemical producer said on Monday.

“With an investment of €75m, Borealis [will build] a semi-commercial catalyst plant to develop and scale up new catalysts for the production of innovative new polymers,” the company said in a statement.

It added that the new plant would support research and development of catalysts and improve catalyst production processes.

The plant would produce semi-commercial batches for the first phase of development, Borealis said.

The plan is subject to approval from the relevant authorities.

Borealis officially opened its Innovation Headquarters at Linz, where it had invested €50m, last month.
