China’s Datang eyes startup of MTP project in H1 2010

GUANGZHOU (ICIS news)--China’s Datang International Power Generation plans to start up its coal-based methanol-to-propylene (MTP) complex in Inner Mongolia in the first half of 2010, a company source said on Monday.

“Several individual plants have been successfully commissioned and some others are under installation and testing. We will try to conduct integrated operation within the first half of next year,” the source said.

Feedstock coal would be used to produce methanol, which would be used to produce propylene and polypropylene (PP), the source said.

The MTP complex, on completion, will be able to produce 453,700 tonnes/year of PP, 120,000 tonnes/year of gasoline and 45,000 tonnes/year of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
