SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s PTT Chemical plans to start up its new 1m tonne/year ethane cracker at Mab Ta Phut in early January after an unsuccessful attempt this month due to mechanical and construction issues, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.
The source did not provide further details about the mechanical issues.
PTT was also expected to shut down one of its existing three crackers at the same site for routine maintenance after the new facility comes on stream, the source said.
The 460,000 tonne/year unit, also known as the I-1 cracker, was scheduled to be shut for around a month, the source added.
