SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Rhodia Polyamide plans to shut its 140,000 tonne/year adipic acid (ADA) plant in Onsan, South Korea for 10 days of maintenance in March, a company source said on Wednesday.

The exact date of the shutdown has yet to be determined, said the source.

“We brought forward the maintenance from May/June because we are falling short of raw material cyclohexanol,” the source said.

From the plant's total output, 50,000 tonnes/year of ADA go to Japanese producer Asahi Kasei for distribution.

Asahi Kasei's 170,000 tonne/year cyclohexanol plant in Okayama prefecture in Japan provides the feedstock for Rhodia's Onsan plant.

Northeast Asian ADA spot prices more than doubled over the course of 2009. They were last assessed at $1,920-1,970/tonne (€1,325-1,359/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) at the end of last year, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

ADA is a raw material for polyester polyols used in the manufacturing of shoe soles.
