BASF-YPC to shut Nanjing cracker in Apri-May for maintenance

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--BASF-YPC Co said on Monday it would shut its 600,000 tonne/year steam cracker in Nanjing, Jiangsu province in April and May for maintenance and to raise its capacity.

The company would work on raising the capacity of the cracker by 23% to 740,000 tonnes/year during the shutdown period, it said in a statement.

Its nine existing downstream plants at the site would also be taken off line at intervals during the two-month maintenance period of the cracker, BASF-YPC said.

“Contractual obligations to customers during this period will be adjusted according to the actual maintenance period of each plant,” the company said.

BASF-YPC is a 50-50 joint venture between BASF of Germany and Sinopec of China.

The expansion of the Nanjing cracker, along with the construction of 10 new downstream plants, would be completed in 2011.
