US Nov IPA exports down 17% year over year - ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of isopropanol (IPA) fell in November to 16,896 tonnes, a decrease of 17% from 20,386 tonnes during the same month in 2008, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.

November 2009 exports were down by 50% from 33,466 tonnes the previous month, the ITC said.

The top IPA export destination was Belgium, which took 63% of the month’s total. The next-largest volumes were shipped to Mexico and Belgium, which took only 11% and 10%, respectively, of the month’s total exports.

Imports rose by 24% in November to 7,899 from 6,393 tonnes in October, with 79% of product arriving from Canada as domestic demand was heightened by supply interruptions, sources said.

Current US prices for IPA were 69-71 cents/lb ($1,521-1,565/tonne, €1,050-1,080/tonne), according to data from global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

US IPA producers include Shell, Dow Chemical, LyondellBasell and ExxonMobil.
