Showa Denko to turn around Indonesia etac plant in February

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Showa Denko plans to shut down its 50,000 tonne/year ethyl acetate (etac) plant in Merak, Indonesia, for two weeks in the second half of February for maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The scheduled shutdown was unlikely to have any major impact on the Asian etac market.

“There is no significant impact as we have already requested our customers to increase their offtakes in January,” the source at the Japanese chemical producer said. The plant was currently operating at full capacity, he added.

Major ethyl acetate producers in Asia include Celanese, Jiangsu Sopo, Shanghai Wujing Chemical Co,  Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development Ltd and Korea Alcohol Industrial Co Ltd.
