SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thai state-owned aromatics major PTT will commence a turnaround at its Mab Ta Phut-based No 2 benzene unit in June, said a company source on Wednesday.

The company is planning a month-long maintenance shutdown. The facility produces about 270,000 tonnes/year of benzene.

The turnaround was originally scheduled in March, but was moved due to stronger market expectations for the first quarter, the source said.

PTT also operates a second line at Mab Ta Phut with a capacity of 363,000 tonnes/year of benzene. About 180,000 tonnes/year of the production from this unit is for captive consumption at the company’s phenol plant, the source said.

Other key benzene producers in Thailand include IRPC and Rayong Olefins.
