LONDON (ICIS news)--Plastics major SABIC has two tubular low density polyethylene (LDPE) lines down at Geleen in the Netherlands due to unexpected technical issues, said a company source on Thursday.

“The lines went down last weekend [23-24 January] and they will be down for at least a week, possibly 10 days,” said the source.

The lines have a combined capacity of 425,000 tonnes/year.

LDPE availability in Europe was tight and this latest issue exacerbated the situation.

Selling sources were confident of implementing the big increases announced for February. Targeted hikes were at €100-130/tonne ($141-183/tonne) for business next month.

($1 = €0.71)
