MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia's Voronezhsintezkauchuk (Voronezh Rubber Co) and Togliattikauchuk both produced significantly less synthetic rubber year on year in 2009, the companies said on Monday.

In 2009, Voronezhsintezkauchuk produced 171,300 tonnes of synthetic rubber, which was down 21% year on year, the company said in a statement. Output was lower due to falling demand, notably from tyre producers, it added.

In 2009, Togliattikauchuk’s synthetic rubber output reached 140,000 tonnes, which was down 38% year on year, according to a company statement.

Togliattikauchuk partially shut down its facilities in early 2009 due to weak demand and significant levels of unsold stock, the statement said.

A subsidiary of Russian petrochemical holding Sibur, Voronezhsintezkauchuk is based at Voronezh in central Russia. The company exports nearly half of its output, including synthetic bivinyl rubber, styrene rubber and latex.

Togliattikauchuk is based in the Samara region of central Russia.
