US DNP Green Technology acquires bioplastics producer Sinoven

NEW YORK (ICIS news)--US renewable chemicals producer DNP Green Technology has acquired US-based bioplastics company Sinoven Biopolymers, DNP said on Thursday.

Sinoven produces biodegradable polybutylene succinate plastic at its facilities in Shanghai, China. The purchase price was not disclosed.

The acquisition will help move DNP’s proprietary bio-based succinic acid down the value chain, said Jean-Francois Huc, president of DNP.

Bioamber, DNP’s joint venture company with France-based ARD, last month started its new 2,000 tonne/year bio-based succinic acid facility in Pomacle, France. The facility uses wheat-derived glucose for feedstock.

ARD (Agro-industrie Recherches et Developpements) is the research and development (R&D) centre of a large agro-industrial consortium in France.

Sinoven had said it would be the first company to commercialise polybutylene succinate with renewable content above 50%. Applications for the bio-polybutylene succinate include food-service coffee lids, cups, dishes, cutlery, disposable razors, writing instruments and cosmetic packaging.

The acquisition also boosts DNP by giving it a presence in China, said Huc.
