SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s PTT Chemical shut its new 1m tonne/year ethane cracker at Mab Ta Phut on 4 February due to technical issues, a company official said on Monday.
The facility might be restarted by around 11 February at the earliest, the source added.
This is the second time this year that the company has been forced to shut the cracker unexpectedly after it came on stream around 25 January.
The unplanned shutdown could reignite enquiries for spot material from buyers in Thailand, market sources said.
A 3,500-tonne cargo was heard sold to the country last week at $1,375/tonne (€1,004/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) for first-half March arrival, they added.
($1 = €0.73)
