BUENOS AIRES (ICIS news)--The Argentine government assigned Unitec Bio, Viluco, Explora, Diaser and Aripar 51.2% of the local biodiesel market, an industry source said on Wednesday.
“The measure will change the energy matrix and will position the country as one of the world leaders in biofuels production,” said Fernando Pelaez, president of the Argentine Biofuels Chamber (CARBIO).
“If the Argentine government made the decision, the blending could reach 10% in 10 months,” he said.
According to the Energy Secretariat, the Argentine biodiesel market will total 859,820 tonnes/year, distributed among 19 companies.
Unitec Bio was assigned with 113,097 tonnes, followed by Viluco with 108,594 tonnes and Explora with 89,091 tonnes.
Diaser obtained 79,459 tonnes and Aripar 50,000 tonnes.
The remaining 48.8% of the biodiesel market was distributed among Ecopor, Soy Energy, Pitey, Diferoil, Rosario Bio, Malkop, AOM, Vicentin, Biomadero, Molinos, Ecofuel, Patagonia, Dreyfus and Renova.
At the beginning of March, all fuel point of sales in Argentina will have to offer the blending with 5% of biodiesel.
