HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical removed the force majeure (FM) on its membrane-grade caustic soda production at its Freeport, Texas, plant late Friday afternoon, a company spokesperson confirmed.

Dow declared FM on 23 February for membrane-grade caustic production at the unit due to a mechanical failure, the company said.

A spokesperson said the company followed its contract stipulations in declaring and subsequently removing the FM, with all appropriate customers timely notified.

Production capacity for the membrane caustic unit was estimated at approximately 500,000 tons (551,146 tonnes), a small percentage of the overall chlor-alkali capacity at the Freeport complex, according to company sources.
