HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical will shut down its methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) plant in Institute, West Virginia, on 10 April for planned maintenance, the US producer said on Monday.
The maintenance at the 35,000 tonne/year plant is scheduled to be completed by 10 May or sooner, the company said.
In related news, Sasol, which imports MIBK to the US, said its Sasolburg MIBK expansion in South Africa was still on schedule to start up in March, though a company source did not say which day the ramp-up would begin.
US MIBK is currently 93-103 cents/lb ($2,050-2,271/tonne, €1,497-1,658/tonne), according to data from global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
February contract prices rose by 3 cents/lb on raw material cost pressure, and producers have nominated increases of 5-7 cents/lb for March on the same premise.
US MIBK producers also include Eastman and Celanese.
