HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Canadian fertilizer maker Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (PotashCorp) will donate $300,000 (€219,000) to the Canadian Red Cross for its Chile Earthquake Fund, the company said on Tuesday.

An earthquake off the coast of Chile on 27 February left as many as 2m people injured and homeless.

The Chilean Red Cross, supported by the Canadian Red Cross, responded with emergency supplies and volunteers within hours.

The donation by Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan followed similar commitments made to China’s earthquake relief effort in 2008 and to Haiti following the recent catastrophic earthquake.

PotashCorp has a commercial interest in Chile through its 32% ownership of Sociedad Química y Minera S.A. (SQM), based in Santiago. SQM’s operations and facilities were unaffected by the earthquake.
