China’s ZRCC delays startup of new PE plant

GUANGZHOU (ICIS news)--Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Co (ZRCC), a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned major Sinopec, has postponed start-up of its new 450,000 tonne/year polyethylene(PE) plant in Ningbo by one week to 15 March, a company source said on Friday.

The source said the original start-up schedule of 8 March was just a target and subject to change when necessary.

“For the new 1m tonne/year cracker, our (startup) target remains 28 March,” the source said, adding that the date could be changed if needed.

The cracker’s downstream 300,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) unit has been in trial operation since early February, according to the source.

ZRCC, located in Ningbo of the eastern province of Zhejiang, is the country’s biggest refinery so far with a capacity of 23m tonnes/year, according to company's website.
