SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mab Ta Phut Olefins Company expects to achieve on-spec production at its 900,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker at Mab Ta Phut in Thailand next week, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The company had earlier hoped for on-spec production of ethylene and propylene by this week, the source said but did not give any reason for the delay.

The company is a joint venture between Thailand’s largest conglomerate Siam Cement Group (SCG) and US major Dow Chemical.

New crackers coming on stream in the region and ample supplies from the Middle East had kept ethylene prices below $1,200/tonne (€876/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) SE (southeast) Asia, market sources said.

Spot prices were assessed down $100-120/tonne at $1,120-1,160/tonne CFR SE Asia last week, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
