China's Yanzhou Coal builds methanol plant in Inner Mongolia

SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--China’s Yanzhou Coal Mining Company Ltd, a subsidiary of Yankuang Group, started construction of a 1.8m tonne/year coal-to-methanol project in Ordos, Inner Mongolia on 17 March, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

The project is the first venture of the company in the northern China province, the source added.

The first phase of the project, a 600,000 tonne/year methanol plant, would be operational by 2012, the source said.

Yanzhou Coal is based in China’s eastern province of Shandong province.
