TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals plans to shut its olefin conversion unit (OCU) in Osaka for turnaround in June, in line with the maintenance of its cracker at the site, said a company official on Monday.

The OCU, which can produce around 120,000 tonnes/year of propylene, would be shut from 17 June-26 July, the source said.

The 450,000 tonne/year cracker would also be off line over the same period, he said.

Domestic propylene supply is expected to be tight in Japan in the second quarter due to ongoing turnaround at crackers, market sources said.
