Bioamber picks Mitsui as succinic acid distributor for Asia

TORONTO (ICIS news)--Bioamber has granted Japanese trading company Mitsui & Co exclusive Asian distribution rights for its bio-based succinic acid, the succinic acid producer said on Thursday.

In a statement released by its US office in New Jersey, Bioamber said Mitsui was an ideal partner in distributing its bio-based chemicals in Asia, a region with “a difficult market for western companies to penetrate”.

The Japanese firm's strong presence in Asian chemicals trading and its investments in many bio-based projects, including fatty acids, glycerine and alcohols, and sebacic acid, Bioamber added. 

Bioamber, a joint venture between US DNP Green Technology and France-based Agro-Industrie Recherches et Développements (ARD), recently started up a 2,000 tonne/year bio-based succinic acid plant in France and is planning another plant in Canada.

Bio-based succinic acid is described as a renewable C4 building block for use in polymer chemistry, personal care and other applications.
