SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Reliance Industries plans to shut its 245,000 tonne/year polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant at Dahej in India’s Gujarat state in May, for 7-10 days of maintenance, a source close to the company said on Friday.

"The exact dates for the turnaround have not been decided yet," the source added.

The shutdown was expected to further tighten supplies at a time when seasonal demand in India was picking up, suppliers and traders said.

Another major PVC producer in India, Finolex Industries Ltd, is also scheduled to shut its vinyls facilities for a turnaround in May.

Reliance – India’s largest PVC producer – also operates a 325,000 tonne/year plant in Hazira and a 60,000 tonne/year unit in Vadodara.
