LONDON (ICIS news)--CEPSA Quimica has been forced to reduce its phenol production because of problems with an electricity generator at its facility at Huelva, Spain, a company source confirmed on Friday.

“We have had to reduce output in Huelva because of issues with our generator. Yesterday we reduced [phenol production] by 30%,” said the source.

Since the economic downturn took hold in the second half of 2008, CEPSA Quimica has only run phenol production from two of its three lines at Huelva, Spain.

CEPSA Quimica has the capacity to produce a total of 600,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 370,000 tonnes/year of acetone at Huelva.

Around 90% of acetone production is via the cumene route to make phenol, whereby 0.62 tonnes of acetone is produced with each tonne of phenol.
