SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Qatar Petrochemical (QAPCO) is on track to complete its new low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant in Qatar by December 2011, with commercial production at the facility due to start the following year, a company source said on Tuesday.

“Uhde has been awarded the lump-sum turnkey contract to build the 300,000 tonne/year plant at Masaieed and we licensed Lupotech T technology,” the source said at the ChinaPlas exhibition in Shanghai.

Uhde is a German engineering major, while Lupotech T technology is an LDPE process technology owned by LyondellBasell.

Qapco operates an 800,000 tonne/year cracker and a 410,000 tonne/year LDPE plant.
