Borouge inaugurates compounding facility in Shanghai

LONDON (ICIS news)--Borealis’ joint-venture (JV) Borouge has inaugurated its 50,000 tonnes/year compounded resins manufacturing facility in Shanghai, the Austrian plastics producer said on Tuesday.

Borealis said the plant would be used to supply the rapidly growing automotive and household appliances industries in China.

Base resins for the plant would be supplied from Borouge’s polyolefins complex in Abu Dhabi, where the group was tripling its polyolefins capacity to 2m tonnes/year by mid 2010, it said at Chinaplas 2010, an international exhibition on plastics and rubber industries.

Borouge was also establishing logistics hubs in Guangzhou and in Shanghai, as well as building an application centre at the manufacturing plant in order conduct product performance reviews.

Borouge is a JV between Borealis and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), a major oil company.
