SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Sinopec subsidiary Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co shut its 1m tonne/year cracker at Ningbo, China, this week due to mechanical issues, a company source said late on Friday.

The source did not provide further details about the nature of the mechanical issues or the estimated length of the shutdown, but other market sources said the facility was expected to resume operations next week.

Market sources also said that Zhenhai’s derivative 450,000 tonne/year polyethylene plant at the same site was taken off line, while another 650,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant was not producing fresh material due to the lack of the feedstock ethylene.

Zhenhai started up its cracker at the site last week.
