LONDON (ICIS news)--German specialty chemicals group LANXESS has started building a rubber chemicals plant at Dzerzhinsk Industrial Park in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia, it said on Thursday.

The company's subsidiary Rhein Chemie will produce rubber chemicals, used for manufacturing car tyres and technical rubber products, at what will be LANXESS' first production plant in Russia.

Russia and the CIS are key growth markets for us as part of our strategic focus on the BRIC [Brazil, Russia, India, China] countries,” said board member Rainier van Roessel. “We are currently seeing a gradual recovery of the rubber industry in Russia, which we want to accompany with a targeted, market-oriented investment.”

The 1,500 tonne/year plant would be completed at the start of 2011, creating 50 new jobs in the medium term, LANXESS said.

Previously, Rhein Chemie had supplied the Russian market from facilities in Germany, it added.
