TORONTO (ICIS news)--DyStar has produced its first batch of sodium amide at its Ludwigshafen site in Germany, the international textile and leather chemicals firm said on Friday.

Production was transferred from a Rhodia site in Norwich, UK, to Ludwigshafen. DyStar acquired Rhodia’s sodium amide business last June, shortly before DyStar's insolvency.

DyStar chief executive Steve Barron said his company would further build out sodium amide production.

“Sodium amide will become an additional important production in Ludwigshafen and will contribute to a successful future of the site,” he said.

“And it will help to make DyStar more independent from the textile industry’s trade cycles,” he added. He did not disclose capacity details.

DyStar is one of the world’s largest textile and and leather chemicals producers, along with Huntsman and Clariant. It is now part of India’s Kiri Dyes & Chemicals, which acquired it out of insolvency in February.
