TORONTO (ICIS news)--DuPont plans to acquire a minority share in Chinese fluorochemicals maker Changshu 3F Zhonghao New Chemical Materials (Zhonghao), the US chemicals major said on Friday.

Zhonghao's fluorochemicals capacities would help strengthen DuPont’s ability to serve its customers worldwide, said Gary Spitzer, president of DuPont Chemicals & Fluoroproducts.

DuPont already had a relationship with Zhonghao that had matured into a successful strategic partnership over the last eight years, he added. He did not disclose financial or capacity information.

The deal was subject to pending completion of definitive agreements with Zhonghao’s majority owner Shanghai 3F New Materials and Chinese government approvals, DuPont said.

In 2004, DuPont and Zhonghao finalised a joint venture deal to manufacture hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) blend refrigerants for the refrigeration industry in China, according to an earlier ICIS report.
