Russia's Kapotnya PP unit to shut down till mid-June

MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Regular maintenance of the polypropylene (PP) facility at the Kapotnya plant, owned by Moscow Refinery, will continue until mid-June, a company source told ICIS news on Tuesday.

The maintenance of the 100,000 tonnes/year PP unit started last week. The Kapotnya plant is located in a southern Moscow suburb and also produces gasoline and other refinery products.

Russia currently has a total PP production capacity of 600,000 tonnes/year. In 2009, Russia's total PP production amounted to 543,000 tonnes, up 16% year on year.

Since January 2010, Russian domestic PP prices have increased by more than 50%, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

Subsequently, in January-March, PP imports into Russia reached some 27,000 tonnes, up 34% up year on year, according to the Russian customs statistics.
