EU chemicals trade balance for Jan-Feb period in surplus

LONDON (ICIS news)--The EU's chemical products trade surplus for the period of January to February during 2010 rose by 34.3% year on year, while imports and exports both increased during those months, an industry body said on Tuesday.

Figures released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Communities, showed the trade balance surplus for chemicals in the EU27 bloc of countries rose to €14.1bn ($17.4bn) in the first two months of 2010, from the €10.5bn recorded for the same period in 2009, as exports grew 15% and imports increased by 5%.

The euro area (EA16) chemicals trade balance surplus for January to February rose year on year to €15.7bn from €12.1bn, as exports increased 14% to €39.2bn while imports grew 6% to €23.4bn.
