LONDON (ICIS news)--LANXESS has opened a new synthetic rubber research and development centre at its French site in La Wantzenau, ?xml:namespace>
The German specialty chemicals group had invested more than €5m ($6.2m) in the laboratories and a new administrative building, it said in a statement.
In 2007, LANXESS decided to transfer all its nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) production operations to La Wantzenau and turn it into a global production site.

Synthetic rubber is used to make products such as cables, seals, hoses, blankets for printing presses and soles for safety and sports shoes. The most important markets are the automotive industry, the construction sector, and the oil and gas production and processing industries.
The company’s technical rubber products business unit is part of the performance polymers segment, which generated sales of €2.39bn in 2009, LANXESS said.
