TORONTO (ICIS news)--BASF Coatings plans to invest €11m ($13m) to upgrade the research and development laboratory at its production hub in Munster-Hiltrup, Germany, the company said on Wednesday.

The laboratory is focused on coatings for the automotive and construction markets, BASF said.

The investment, which is to be spread over three years to 2013, would further strengthen BASF’s coatings production at Munster, said Helmut Rodder, the site’s general manager.

Last year, BASF Coatings opened a new “refinish competence centre” for automotive repair coatings at Munster.
