TORONTO (ICIS news)--Nabaltec plans to build a boehmites flame retardants facility this year at its site in Schwandorf in Germany’s Bavaria state, the specialty chemicals and materials company said on Tuesday.

Nabaltec’s boehmites are a modification of aluminium hydroxide as well as a halogen-free flame retardant that would be used in the production of electronic printed circuit boards, it said.

The company did not disclose specific volume or financial details, but it said the investment was in the “low single-digit euro millions” and could be financed from its current cash flow.

However, despite the flame retardants investment, Nabaltec expected to considerably scale back investments in 2010 and 2011, it said.

Last year, Nabaltec started up a new 10,000 tonne/year polyvinyl chloride (PVC) additives plant at Schwandorf.
