TORONTO (ICIS news)--Umicore plans to build a technology development centre for automotive catalysts in Suzhou in China's eastern Jiangsu province, the Belgian catalysts and materials group said on Tuesday.
Under a memorandum of understanding with Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) authorities, the new facility would be operational by mid 2012, it said. Umicore already has an automotive catalyst production plant in ?xml:namespace> “The Chinese car market is growing rapidly and this, coupled with the increasing stringent emission legislation, justified the investment in a dedicated applied technology centre,” said Bill Staron, Umicore’s executive vice president for automotive catalysts.
