China's Hebei Chung Shun runs acetic acid unit at 65% op rate

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China's Hebei Chung Shun Chemical Co has been running its 500,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant in Xingtai at 65% of capacity after resuming operations in mid May following an outage, a company official said on Monday.

“We are currently fulfilling previous orders and [are] cautious with fresh orders because prices are falling,” the official said.

The plant is currently producing 900 tonnes/day of acetic acid, according to sources close to the company. The unit was shut on 27 April after issues related to its catalyst caused intermittent production, they added.

The restart of the Hebei Chung Shun’s plant was expected to flood the eastern China market with competitively-priced material, said a Jiangsu-based producer.

Acetic acid transactions in eastern China remained on a downward trend, which had started in mid March, losing yuan (CNY) 100/tonne (€81) to CNY2,750–3,000/tonne ex-tank at the close of business last Friday, according to ICIS Pricing.

Hebei Chung Shun Chemical Co is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kingboard Chemical Holdings.
